It took so long for me to get the nerve
I talked about it to so many friends
I figured that it was what I deserved
But never did I think it all could end.
I asked so many people what was best
And everyone thought the idea was good
"Of course," they said, "He likes you. He'll say yes."
So I believed. I'd ask him to prom, I would!
It took a while, I thought of nothing else
But then I got my opportunity
I never thought he'd say "There's someone else"
My world, that night, came crashing down on me.
That answer, come so unexpectedly
Has simplified my world, but so hurt me.

A cute little sonnet. You might have guessed he said no. I had fun at prom anyway with someone else. I think it was for the better.
Problem is, I can't remember if 3/9 is when I asked him or when I wrote the poem. I think it was when I wrote this.

I like your subtle assonances in stead of too simple masculine rhyme.
