Transforming Cinderella Dress

Description

Here it is, the transforming Cinderella dress in action! I made it for an elementary school production. You can see the original rendering here.

The first photo shows the rags version of the dress. The shoulder and side seams of the bodice come apart thanks to magnets, and the ball gown skirt is tucked up in there all strategically so it falls down over the rag skirt when she pulls the bodice apart.
Second is the ball gown right after the transformation. Every piece of the dress in those two first photos is sewn together! As I only had measurements and no fittings to go by while making the dress, the ball bodice is a jersey knit and the rags bodice has an elastic waist so I had some wiggle room.
The final photo is as she appears at the ball, with a petticoat under and a sheer sparkle organza skirt over, just to jazz it up a bit more without having to fit all that under the rags bodice.

I took a video of the transformation which you can see as a GIF on my blog. It totally worked! And it got a round of applause!

Technical stuff:
Pattern: Simplicity 1184 (for the two bodices, slightly modified for both)
Fabric: Cheap broadcloth (rags), muslin (apron) satin (ball skirt and peplum), cotton jersey (ball bodice)
Trims: Shiny ribbons, glass beads
Hours: Around 10
